Beliefs

As United Methodists we have an obligation to bear a faithful witness to the living reality of Jesus Christ, which is at the center of our personal lives and the core of the Christian Church. To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to faithfully express the witness we make in our own time.

John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement believed that the living reality of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, made alive in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

Doctrinal Standards and Our Theological Task

United Methodists profess the historic Christian faith in God as revealed in Jesus Christ for our salvation and ever at work in human history through the Holy Spirit.

Living in a covenant of grace under the Lordship of Christ, we participate in the first fruits of God's coming reign and pray in hope for its full realization on earth as in heaven.

Our Mission

Transforming lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ through an active community, significant relationships, and intentional discipleship.

How to Join Bandera UMC

By Profession of Faith and Baptism

If you desire a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have not yet been baptized, the pastor will be happy to discuss the significance of accepting Jesus into your life as well as the meaning of baptism with you at your convenience in your home or in the church office.

By Transfer from Another United Methodist Church

Simply inform the pastor. It is not necessary for you to contact your former pastor. BUMC will handle the details of your transfer for you.

By Transfer from Another Christian Denomination

The process is very much like the one above. Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be repeated. You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: "Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?"

How to "Join" Without "Joining"

If you are a United Methodist whose membership is in another city or state and you wish to retain that membership in your home church, you can become an Affiliate Member. Our pastor will write your home church pastor informing him/her of your Affiliate member status at BUMC.
